{Thrifty Thursday} You’ve Got Mail

I don’t know about you, but my family is the WORST about bringing mail in and letting it land on the counter…TOTAL pet peeve of mine. I knew I needed to find something I could mount on the wall to get the mail off the counter for good. Well the heavens parted one day at Goodwill when I was thrifting and I found this little guy for around $1 I believe. I remembering being SUPER SHOCKED about the sticker price…constantly surprised about the treasures I find…one man’s trash really is another man’s treasure!
For this project I wanted to keep the basic feel of the piece but it needed some sprucing up.
My materials included black matte spray paint and porcelain pens from Micheal’s. Only problem with the pens was that one didn’t work {peroxide green} and the other was too dark {burnt orange.} I selected these because they match my Tuscan theme {aka they were out of white} but since they didn’t work out I just had to roll with it and I actually thought a glossy grey might be nice. In entered my American Apparel nail polish {Echo Park…used to live here BTW.}  Because if you know me I like to get things done even if it means getting creative!

First I applied a much needed coat of matte black spray paint to give a nice even + finished look and let that dry for a bit.
Then I free hand painted on the raised metal part of the box, let dry and VIOLA! I was considering leaving it as is but I think my additions give it the needed touch!
Do you have a thrifted find that you need to revamp?

it is gorgeous!! what an awesome find at goodwill. Our mailbox is literally 3 blocks away but I check it everyday…I am weird I love mail! And then it sits on our bar :-) hahaha

I love the idea of having a wall mount for the mail! In our house, we bring it in, and it lands on the kitchen table until we go through it. We need to change that!

I actually stopped at this huge Salvation Army that I pass every day on my way home from work and ended up getting six new treasues for twenty dollars. TWENTY DOLLARS!!! Seriously, one mans trash is like treasure hunting for me! :)
