Hi friends! How many of you have Summer parties on the horizon? Or just host a lot of parties in general? I know for us it seems that we’re hosting friends or family quite often, so it’s beneficial to keep to a few tips and tricks to make sure we have what we need on-hand and so that we don’t spend too much money each time we throw a party! Earlier this month I shared some Outdoor Summer Entertaining Essentials, but what about those indoor parties, showers and brunches? I teamed up with BHG Live Better to share some of my favorite tips and tricks, and how you can incorporate BHG Live Better products from Walmart to ensure your parties stay within budget! And I’ll show you how I incorporated these tips into this lovely brunch party setting.

1. Neutral Serving Sets

First and foremost – neutral serving sets are a must! For parties, I happen to stick with all white and contemporary styles. Neutral, white dishes can really coordinate with any theme or decor, so you don’t have to go buying new pieces or sets for each different occasion.

This BHG Porcelain Square Dinnerware Set is a prime example! The simple lines and crisp white color is a perfect starting place for any event. I also love that you can use the pieces as dishes for your guests or as serving trays!

These BHG Forged Stainless Steel flatware sets are also great, simple pieces that will coordinate with the rest of your dishes and decor! And you can purchase whatever you need, in whatever quantity you need, at a great price!

2. Layer Colors, Patterns + Textures

My next tip for pretty parties and dinner settings is to layer colors and textures! With a neutral backdrop of dishes and flatware, you can incorporate colors and textures through napkins, napkin rings, placemats, table runners and more! Stick with a theme, but don’t be afraid to mix colors, patterns and textures to give your tables and place settings depth and interest!

3. Use Scrapbook and Wrapping Paper

I love to spend a bulk of my budget on great dishes, flatware and serving pieces. Once you have those secured, you can easily change themes and colors with paper! Instead of cloth runners, I actually like to use patterned wrapping paper or scrapbook paper. Here you can see some hand-dyed wrapping paper I secured to the table with washi tape! The colors and patterns are so interesting, it adds a lot to the table.

You can also incorporate scrapbook paper into the mix. Inside this lovely BHG Bamboo Serving Tray I simply placed a sheet of patterned scrapbook paper to add more depth.

4. Decorate with Flowers and Food

To add interest to your party tables and dinner settings, you want to add vertical elements. A great and easy way to do this is with flowers and food. You can pick up fresh flowers from your local florist or grocer, and you can decorate with food you already have! Fresh fruit, breads or desserts always look great on a party table! Here I have lemons and pears in a lovely BHG Large Square Bowl that coordinates with the Porcelain Dinnerware Set!

5. Use What You Have

Lastly, once you have the basics: great neutral dishes, serving pieces, flatware, trays and bowls – don’t be afraid to “shop” your home to add to the decor! Mason jars, napkins, paper, vases…all of those are items you might already own that could be repurposed for your party table or display!
