Vintage Book Ornaments

Just Us Three for ANO - DIY Vintage Book Ornaments

Well the holidays are here and it’s time to get gifts ready for Christmas Day which is coming fast! DIY ornaments are always a crowd favorite because they are beautiful and hand made with love. My DIY ornament addition to the Trim Your Tree series here at A Night Owl is keeping in the classic theme using pages from a vintage Christmas book I purchased from Goodwill for just $1.99.

First up is my twine vintage book project. I purchased a plaster frame from Michaels and as soon as I got it home I broke it! What?! Well this wasn’t a problem because I was able to glue it back together and cover it in twine. No harm no foul.

Then I cut a page from my A Christmas Carol book glued that to a cardboard backing. Added some beautiful gold ribbon for a hanger and put it all together.

Next up was my glitter vintage book project. I started with a cardboard circle shadow box ornament base I also purchased from Michaels. This one took a few more steps but was still very easy. I cut a circle from some glitter paper for the background. Then I added some ribbon lining for more sparkle. Next I made a paper rosette. I simply fan folded a page from the book, cut it in half, folded down the middle and glued the ends together to form a fan fold paper rosette. I stumbled over a line in the book I wanted to feature and made a mini banner out of it. Finally, I glued the paper pieces in place and my beautiful glitter ornament was complete.

Tinsel Vintage Book Ornaments

What you’ll need:

  • Clear plastic ornament
  • Tinsel
  • Vintage book page
  • Scissors

Vintage Book & Tinsel Ornaments

Last up was my tinsel vintage book project. I started with a plastic clear ornament from Michaels. All this craft required was using some fabulous tinsel and vintage book pages. By cutting the tinsel apart and shredding book pages I was able to make a filler that had some sparkle. I fan folded the pages just to make sure the paper pieces were about the same size. Again I found a phrase I wanted to feature so I made a little paper banner and simple stuck it in front of the filler. And that was it! The easiest project of the bunch by far.

    • Thank you Wendy! It’s always hard for me to upscale books, I’m a total bookworm, but I know this one was one that would be used more often as ornament decor than actual reading material.
