{Printables} Downton Abbey “If you were the only girl”

Downton Abbey Printable at { anightowlblog.com }

Hi friends! It’s almost here – the Downton Abbey Season Finale! Are you a fan? In all honesty I haven’t seen it yet. But Kimberly just started watching the show right before the start of Season 3 and watched all of Season 1 AND 2 in just one week! She said it was that good. So I’d better get in gear! Anyhoo she said one of the themes of the show that stuck out to her was when Mary and Cousin Matthew sang the song “If you were the only girl in the world, and I were the only boy.” So I whipped up this fancy tea-party printable for her…and YOU! So feel free to download the print below! Just click on the print below for the non-watermarked version. Enjoy!  (Please do not share/copy/or sell this printable. {Thrifty Thursday} An IKEA Desk Makeover

I purchased an IKEA desk sometime ago and had visions of what I wanted it to look like dancing in my head. I decided on diagonal lines and wanted a pop of color.

So on the black brown surface I thought that yellow would look good…it ended up looking like a construction traffic sign. Oops! Lesson learned.

So I stripped the whole table down and was loving the earthy look of the particle board…which I’m sure might be a first of all time. LOL! I decided to go with a very simple, classic look and used mint colored spray paint I already had to create a desk blotter look. I created a rectangle center with paint tape and used cans of soup on the corners to create inverted circles. For a finishing touch I added the Fair Isle Dots Stencil by Martha Stewart with a mint multi purpose paint also from the Martha Stewart line.

The end result is a desk + space that inspires me to create + design + and dream up new projects. Do you have a DIY project that inspires you?

{Thrifty Thursday} DIY Vintage Bookshelf

In preparation for a bookworm birthday party for her daughter (which will be shown in all its cuteness later this month), Rachel, a contributor for A Night Owl, updated this adorable vintage bookshelf and is sharing it with you all today!

We survived the bookworm party and now it’s time to start sharing the pictures and how to on our party related projects with you. First up to bat is a FABULOUS vintage book shelf that I thrifted some time ago for about $7. This bookshelf had so much charm but I knew I needed to make it a little more whimsy and not so dark and dated.

I simply layered on glossy white spray paint in about 3-4 stages allowing for time to dry in between. On a past project I sprayed the paint on too thick and it started bubbling…so don’t make my mistake. This time I took my time on the application. I had intended to spray it with even more white glossy paint as well as tier three shades of green on the shelves but I think I like it just the way it turned out.

I do recommend using a primer even though I didn’t because I found that the spraypaint will easily scratch off the bookshelf. It’s fine with me though because I think it adds to it’s vintage appeal.

What do you think of my renovation?

{Thrifty Thursday} You’ve Got Mail

I don’t know about you, but my family is the WORST about bringing mail in and letting it land on the counter…TOTAL pet peeve of mine. I knew I needed to find something I could mount on the wall to get the mail off the counter for good. Well the heavens parted one day at Goodwill when I was thrifting and I found this little guy for around $1 I believe. I remembering being SUPER SHOCKED about the sticker price…constantly surprised about the treasures I find…one man’s trash really is another man’s treasure!
For this project I wanted to keep the basic feel of the piece but it needed some sprucing up.
My materials included black matte spray paint and porcelain pens from Micheal’s. Only problem with the pens was that one didn’t work {peroxide green} and the other was too dark {burnt orange.} I selected these because they match my Tuscan theme {aka they were out of white} but since they didn’t work out I just had to roll with it and I actually thought a glossy grey might be nice. In entered my American Apparel nail polish {Echo Park…used to live here BTW.}  Because if you know me I like to get things done even if it means getting creative!

First I applied a much needed coat of matte black spray paint to give a nice even + finished look and let that dry for a bit.
Then I free hand painted on the raised metal part of the box, let dry and VIOLA! I was considering leaving it as is but I think my additions give it the needed touch!
Do you have a thrifted find that you need to revamp?

{Thrifty Thursday} A Washi Globe Upcycle

I found this globe while thrifting and really liked the colors of the continents so it was SOLD in a heartbeat. I knew right away I would incorporate mint and pink tones on the base. This project was so quick and easy. I had this completed before end of the day and was beaming with pride.

So first I cleaned this piece up a bit. THEN I had the mother of all ideas sneak into my brain. I wanted to add a fun pattern on the globe but wasn’t sure how to accomplish this. I considered fabric {Liberty of London pattern} on the base but thought that might actually take away from the globe rather than add to it. I have a few rolls of washi tape and decided to give it a go. What’s good about this tape is it is slightly opaque. Which is perfect in this case because it didn’t hide the continent detail completely once added on the equator line.

Next I disassembled it all {sorry for the bad lighting of my evening project + the ugly blue tarp}.

Next I spray painted the mint colored parts {I used the professional Luiqitex spray paint}.

I then used the light pink {ballet slipper} spray paint to transition from mint to a bright pink on the bottom.

Finally I made the base a bright pink to match the washi tape brilliance.

And the project is complete! Total project cost was around $20 but this was because I had to buy my mint and bright pink spray paint. Luckily I used my coupons and got the bright pink can for free. The thrifted globe was $9.99 which would have normally cost somewhere in the range of $35-$60 according to a quick Google shopping search.

Thanks for reading about this successful DIY project. Now you hunt those globes down and GIVE THEM SOME LOVE PEOPLE! You have to know that if you create a study area this fab for your own kidlets they are guaranteed to be scholarly boy + girl wonders! Haha!

And here is a sample of the globe in a bookworm + fake nerdy glasses photo shoot. How cute is this?! Special thanks to Flecky Fotography!

{Thrifty Thursday} I Love Lamp

I was thrilled when I stumbled upon this lamp found a lamp I was stalking at the Goodwill and was able to purchase it on a 50% off day making it a whopping $3.50.
I knew exactly what the plans were for this gorgeous piece.  To spray it head to toe from light bulb insert to wall plug in a ballet pink spray paint.
People these types of lamp stands {$78 WHHHHAT!? LOL} cost bookoo bucks…so being able to get this look for under $10 {including supplies} = WINNING!
Now get out there and find your lamp stand + tell it I lamp you and it will beautify a room for you! ;)
