Aren’t they just the cutest? They look great and they’re tasty too! If you’ve never colored coconut before and need more detail on that step, check out this how-to by Nest of Posies! I think this would be a fun activity with the kids as well. Let each one decorate their own basket! I hope you enjoyed another installment of From Grandma’s Kitchen. A Natural Easter Tablescape

Easter Tablescape at A Night Owl Blog #easter #decor

Hi friends! First off, if you’re visiting us from Uncommon Designs, let me just say welcome! So glad you’re  here! Today I’m finally sharing a little more of our Easter decor this year – our dining room tablescape! Last year our Easter decor was based off of a bright and cheery palette by Design Seeds, but this year I wanted our decor to be much like our Christmas decor: neutral and natural colors with a lot of texture. I started out with an oversized metal basket that I found at Hobby Lobby (hello 50% off). It was dark and distressed and quite beautiful, but I knew that against our dark cherry table that it would just get lost. So out came the white spray paint!

Easter Tablescape at A Night Owl Blog #easter #decor

Then the basket still felt a little empty in the center, so I placed it on top of a very rustic frame that I recently picked up at Goodwill for just $2.99. I’ve been meaning to build a square box for the center of our dining room table to “frame in” centerpiece decor for the longest time, so this helped to take the place of that item on my to-do list for now.

Easter Tablescape at A Night Owl Blog #easter #decor

I filled the basket with a good amount of natural grass. I also purchased large paper mache eggs on my Hobby Lobby trip, and spray painted them with Krylon Pistachio (a great minty-fresh color) that I had leftover from last year’s Easter Topiary makeover. Once those dried they were a little too bright and shiny for my taste so I applied a little tan acrylic paint over top with a few speckles from a paintbrush and then applied like a glaze with a wet cloth. Just the look I was going for.

Then for the place settings, I placed our lovely World Market Nantucket plates on some natural IKEA placemats, and slipped our flatware into some adorable burlap sacks with a neutral, silk cloth napkin.

All in all I’m happy with how it turned out! It’s simple and natural, but with the large basket still has a hint of Easter goodness. What do you think? If you’re looking for more Easter Tablescape inspiration be sure to head over to Uncommon Designs! There is a  great group of ladies sharing their tables with you this week and Uncommon Designs is sharing a link to every one of them, every day!

An Easter Vignette with Martha Stewart Crafts

An Easter Vignette made with Martha Stewart Crafts #12monthsofmartha #easter

Hi friends! It’s that time – time to start breaking out Easter decor and crafts, and today I’m sharing a fun and easy Easter Vignette that I made with Martha Stewart Crafts! Now last month, when I shared our Valentines Mantel, I mentioned that I’m part of a 12 Months of Martha program where each month I get to show you fun ways to use Martha Stewart Crafts! It’s really been so much fun – the products are a dream to use! If you follow me on Instagram or Vine – you might remember my 12 Months of Martha box this month.

So let’s get to what products I used this month and what I made!

Paper Doily Bunting with Martha Stewart Crafts #12monthsofmartha

First up is some simple, but adorable Paper Doily Bunting! I love all the doily bunting I’ve been seeing lately, so I thought, why not create it with Martha Stewart’s amazing line of paper? The colors are so fun and vibrant, I knew it would take doily bunting to a new level.

What you’ll need:

And the steps:

  • Simply cut out 6″ paper circles with the Martha Stewart Circle Edge Paper Punch
  • Fold the circle in half
  • Run a line of yarn inside the half-circle and glue the sides together
  • Repeat until you have the length of bunting desired

Embellished Paper Lanterns with Martha Stewart Crafts #12monthsofmartha

Next up we have Embellished Paper Lanterns. Now when I showed you the box of goodies on Instagram and Facebook, some of you said you’d love to see lanterns made out of the craft supplies. Now while I didn’t make the entire lantern, I did decide to embellish a couple of cute little ones I had grabbed from the dollar store!

What you’ll need:

And the steps:

  • Simply cut out 6″ paper circles with the Martha Stewart Circle Edge Paper Punch
  • Trace the hole at the top of the lantern onto the circle and cut out the center
  • Cut in between the scallops of the circle, about 3/4 of the way in, all the way around
  • Run a line of yarn inside the half-circle and glue the sides together
  • Glue the embellishement to both the top and bottom of the lantern
  • Hang with yarn

Bunny Embroidery Art with Martha Stewart Crafts #12monthsofmartha #easter

Last up is this easy and adorable Bunny Embroidery Art! Now I have to admit, I’m no seamstress, but I love embroidery hoops! So this is a fun no-sew way to put them to use!

What you’ll need:

And the steps:

  • Place fabric into the embroidery hoop as the foundation, tighten and cut fabric around the edge in the back
  • Cut out 10″, 8″ and 6″ paper circles with the Martha Stewart Circle Edge Paper Punch
  • Cut out a bunny or any shape you’d like at the center
  • Starting with the largest circle, glue each layer on until you end with the bunny!

And I loved the final result of each piece put together…

{Thrifty Thursday} An Easter Mantel

This week I’m doing something a little different for Thrifty Thursday. Why? Because I just finished updating my mantel for Easter and I need to get it posted (Easter will be here and gone before you know it!), and also because some of the key pieces were “thrifted” from my local Goodwill!

The main thrifted upcycle of this mantel are these topiaries I found a few weeks ago. I loved the size and shape and knew they would be a great fit for our mantel; however, I didn’t love the color. I wanted green. But not just any green…I chose this fresh, minty green called “pistachio” by Krylon and went to work. I think they turned out FABULOUS! They make me smile.

And here’s how the entire mantel turned out!

There are many lovely Spring printables floating around out there that I may just use once we get past Easter, but I ended up making the one that is on our mantel, because I really wanted the words of the mantel to speak to the real reason we celebrate. I made three different color variations, feel free to download your very own HERE! I added a ceramic Easter egg that I also found at Goodwill on the side.

And the lovely updated topiaries frame in an updated chalkboard (made with an 11×14 dollar store frame, spray painted with chalkboard paint, and the frame painted yellow), a twine-wrapped chipboard “S”, and a bunny silhouette in a painted dollar store frame. Also for a fun garland, I strung plastic Easter eggs on bakers twine to hang on the shelf above.

I adore how it turned out. What do you think?

{Project Home} An Easter Wreath

Remember this St. Patrick’s Day Wreath I made a few weeks ago?
Well…being as resourceful as I am (ok, you may call it lazy), I fashioned my tulle St. Patrick’s day shamrocks with twine that I tied around the tulle wreath so that I could simply untie it come Easter time and add a more Easter-y themed banner. And that’s exactly what I’ve done! I used my handy dandy Silhouette Cameo and cut out some cute Easter eggs, glued them to some twine, added a new ribbon (that I got on clearance from Hobby Lobby for $1 I might add!), and voila! A perfectly Spring-y and adorable tulle Easter wreath (inspired by my friend Erin and this pin). What do you think?
PS – if you’re looking for the tutorial of how I made the tulle wreath in the first place, simply go to this LINK and you’ll see it step by step!
Happy Easter!

{Easter Egg Hunt} Ombre Easter Eggs

Ombre Dyed Easter Eggs by @anightowlblog

Last week I was THRILLED to be a part of the Easter Egg Hunt with Aimee from It’s Overflowing! Aimee invited her friends and followers to be part of this fantastically fun project, and I joined in! I had the opportunity to meet Aimee at The Glitter Academy a few weeks ago and she’s just the sweetest gal around! I knew I wanted to be a part of whatever she was workin’ on!

There are a TON of EGG-cellent ideas from the series, featuring a number of beautiful bloggy gals! Go check it out and get some great ideas and inspiration!

With all the OMBRE love going on in the design world, for my contribution, I thought it would be fun to give it a try with Easter Eggs.

What you’ll need:

  • Hard Boiled Eggs
  • Food Coloring
  • Vinegar
  • Hot Water
  • Cups
  • Egg Holder (I used a small ladle)

Ombre Dyed Easter Eggs at { anightowlblog.com }

And the steps:

  • Lay out 4 cups for dipping the eggs.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of white vinegar to each cup.
  • Add 3/4 cup of HOT water to each cup.
  • Then, vary the amount of food coloring you add to each cup, increasing it from the first to the last. I chose to use 10 drops, 1/8 tsp, 1/4 tsp, and 1/2 tsp.
  • Then starting with the first cup with the least amount of coloring and dip the egg all the way in.
  • With the second cup, only dip the egg 3/4 of the way in, the third cup 1/2 of the way in, and the last one only 1/4 of the way end so only the bottom of the egg is in the darkest colored water.
  • You may have to play with how long you dip the egg in each cup to determine how dark you want the result.

And here’s how they turned out!
Ombre Dyed Easter Eggs at { anightowlblog.com }

Ombre Dyed Easter Eggs at { anightowlblog.com }

I chose to repeat this process with three different colors and I love how they turned out! Just so cute and full of Spring-y fun! I can’t wait to see what everyone else came up with! Again, I really appreciate Aimee allowing us to be part of this fun event!

{Printables} Easter Time

Well call me inspired! Now that St. Patrick’s Day has passed and we’re coming up on Easter Sunday, it’s time to pack up my shamrock shelves and spring forward! I’ve been so very inspired by some beautiful spring mantels I’ve seen. So while I created an Easter printable with this color scheme that I’m using as a basis for my spring mantel, I also created a couple more with these mantels as color inspirations:

Beautiful job ladies! So feel free to download these printables for your own Easter decor! Simply click on the picture of the color combination you would like to download the PDF from Google docs!

…..
And now, with the help of Xhonane Olivas from Familia Católica, the Easter printables are now available in Spanish! Thanks for the request and your assistance, Xhonane!
