Tulle Pumpkin Wreath + Tutorial

Hi friends! Today I’m going to share with you another one of my tulle wreaths I’ve made recently, a festive Pumpkin Tulle Wreath! I originally shared this project and tutorial with Vanessa of See Vanessa Craft for her Halloween series; however, one thing I love about this wreath is that it is appropriate for Fall, Halloween and Thanksgiving! It’s currently still hanging on our kitchen pantry door even after all of the Halloween has been put away, and it’s just so cute! Want to make your own? Well here is the tutorial:

What you’ll need:

  • Wreath form (I got mine from the dollar spot at Target!)
  • Orange tulle
  • Green tulle
  • Brown foam sheet
  • Ribbon to hang
  • Hot glue

And the steps:

  • Cut similar lengths of the orange tulle (you can see from the picture my pieces measured about 14 inches long)
  • Simply tie each length of tulle around the wreath form until most of the form is covered
  • Cut out a “stem” from the brown foam sheet and hot glue it to the wreath
  • Hot glue a small piece of green tulle on the back for leaves
  • Lastly, hot glue a ribbon to the back to hang the wreath, and you’re done!

And here’s how it turned out:

Isn’t it fun? I’m also going to be sharing an awesome Thanksgiving Tulle Wreath over at Mom Endeavors this week during her Cornucopia of Creativity Series, so make sure you stop by to say hi! What Thanksgiving crafts have you been up to lately before everything becomes ALL Christmas?

The Halftone Comic Book App

Happy Halloween friends! I have another fun Superhero-themed post for you today, a way for you to convert your favorite superhero pictures into comic book pictures with the Halftone App for the iPhone! Halftone is on my Top Ten InstaApps list for sure. If you have a boy, you can’t leave home without it! In our last Halloween post, I shared a quick and easy way to make your very own DIY Superhero Backdrop with posterboard from the dollar store! And once you have that set up and you snap your fun super hero pics, why not jazz them up with the Halftone App for some comic book flair!

Halftone turns your photos into unique, vintage comics that friends and family will love! More than a simple “photo filter” app, Halftone makes it easy to add paper styles, captions, speech balloons, graphic stamps, and fonts (including built-in comic fonts). Your final image can be sent via e-mail, uploaded directly to Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr, shared with apps like Instagram, Camera+, and Color Splash, printed, and even sent as a real, physical postcard through the mail! Here are a few pictures I updated of our little superheros this week…

Fun, right? Well I’ll leave you now to all of your Halloween festivities of the day! I can’t wait to see how everyone’s pictures turn out! Also, if you use the Halftone App with your little superheros, be sure to send them my way!

DIY Superhero Backdrop

Happy Halloween friends! Today I’m sharing with you a quick and easy DIY Superhero Backdrop that you can make with dollar store supplies and in just minutes! A DIY Superhero Backdrop is perfect for your superhero parties, for fun photo booth backgrounds, OR for taking pictures of your little superheros on Halloween! Which is just why I made mine!

What you’ll need:

  • Black posterboard (or whatever color you prefer)
  • Yellow or light-colored crayon
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Removable mounting squares

And the steps:

  • Simply draw the design of the “city landscape” that you want right onto the back of the posterboard with a yellow crayon (that is the color that I felt showed up the best)
  • Cut along the lines you’ve drawn
  • Mount the posterboard to the wall with removable mounting squares, and you’re done! Easy!

My kids are dressed up as Spiderman and Batman this year. My little superheros! Earlier this week I shared some of their past costumes. Isn’t it so much fun to dress them up? I’m setting them up for blackmail pictures early on! Well they both had a lot of fun playing in front of their new backdrop, you know until they were tired of mom taking pictures. You’ll be able to tell when that happened below!

Ok kiddos, I get it, you’re done! They’re just so cute. What are your little ones dressed up as this year? Could you use a quick and easy DIY Superhero Backdrop in your home?

{Thrifty Thursday} A Twilight Inspired Halloween Display

Hi friends! Today I’m sharing with you our Twilight-inspired Halloween Display. Are you a fan of Twilight? I have to admit that I just love the books! So I thought it would be fun to mix in a little vampire-fun into our dining room for Halloween. Now why on Thrifty Thursday? Well as most of our Thrifty Thursday posts go, many of these pieces either come from our local AZ Goodwill, the dollar store or were repurposed. Here’s the breakdown…

1) This DIY Cloche was made from a $3 cheese dome from Goodwill, a repurposed plate and a dollar store candle stick. And the garlic to keep those vampires away were cut off a string of fake garlic also found at Goodwill for just $1.

2) The spider candlestick is from Hobby Lobby, at 40% off seasonal items this candle was just $1! And the candlestick I picked up for just $2 at Goodwill.

3) Our very own Knock-Off Pottery Barn Mercury Pumpkin that we shared with you last week. Project cost, around $8!

4) Perfectly spooky black bird from the dollar store.

5) Twilight books: you got it, repurposed from my personal library!

6) Little skull I picked up at Ross for just $3 for 2, sprayed with a little Krylon Looking Glass spray paint as well for that mercury effect.

7) And lastly our trusty large tray was just $3 from Goodwill.

And here’s how it turned out…

What do you think? My husband even complimented the display, now THAT is something!

{Thrifty Thursday} Halloween Tulle Spider Wreath

Hi friends! Another installment of Thrifty Thursday here, and today it’s Halloween-themed! It’s slowly but surely starting to look like Halloween in the Sneed household. I feel so behind! I shared by DIY Halloween Chalkboard Signs with you last week that are sitting on part of my mantel, and I should be finishing up my other mantel project soon to share with you the whole kit-and-kaboodle!

Now you know I love to make fun, festive wreaths out of tulle. And Halloween is no exception! This Thrifty Thursday I was lucky enough to pick up a wreath form from my local Arizona Goodwill for just $.69! Add in some black tulle from Hobby Lobby (at 50% off) and a dollar store web with spiders and you have yourself one spooooooky spider wreath!

To make the wreath I simply cut strips of tulle at about 12 inches in length and tied them around the form until the entire form was covered. I then stretched the spider webbing over the back of the wreath. Now you could secure the web with hot glue; however I found that it stayed put just as is. I stuck a spider in the center and tied some extra web at the top to hang it by! Thrifty, quick and easy! My favorite kind of project. If you’d like a picture tutorial, be sure to check out my first tulle wreath post!

Perfectly spooky, right?

DIY Halloween Chalkboard Signs

I shared with you our Fall Mantel earlier this week, but now that it’s October, it’s time to update for Halloween! I’m part of a fabulous Halloween craft campaign where I received a box full of Martha Stewart Crafts! Just about anything you could think of; her amazing craft paints, new line of glass paints, chalkboard paint, adhesive silkscreens, paintable plastic, tons of stencils and paint brushes and handled squeegees. Now you know I love chalkboard paint and projects that are interchangeable, so I set out to make DIY Halloween Chalkboard signs, that can be updated based on the occasion!

What you’ll need:

  • 3 – 8×10 Frames
  • 3 – 3×5 Frames
  • Martha Stewart Crafts Multi-Surface Chalkboard Paint
  • Martha Stewart Crafts Multi-Surface Satin Paint in Arrowhead
  • Martha Stewart Crafts Multi-Surface Glitter Paint in Obsidian
  • Martha Stewart Crafts Paintable Plastic
  • Martha Stewart Crafts Adhesive Silkscreens
  • Martha Stewart Crafts Adhesive Stencils
  • Martha Stewart Crafts Handled Squeegees
  • Scrapbook Paper
  • Glue Gun
  • Glass Glue (such as E6000)

And the steps:

Make three 3×5 frames into mini chalkboards. I simply took the glass out of the frames and painted them with Martha Stewart Crafts Multi-Surface Chalkboard Paint. After three coats and waiting 24 hours, I seasoned the chalkboards with regular chalk then wrote the letters “B-O-O” on them. Once I placed the glass back into the frame, I took the stand on the back of the frames off so that they could be adhered flush to the larger frames.

Create interchangeable decorative background. I used the Martha Stewart Crafts Adhesive Paisley Silkscreens to create visual interest behind the mini chalkboards. Now these silkscreens and paint could be used directly on glass; however, I chose to use the Martha Stewart Crafts Paintable Plastic so that the backgrounds could be changed based on the occasion. I simply placed the adhesive silkscreen where I wanted on the plastic and used the Martha Stewart Crafts Handled Squeegees to apply Martha Stewart Crafts Multi-Surface Satin Paint in Arrowhead. I subsequently added a few more affects. After the paisley design dried, I lightly brushed Martha Stewart Crafts Multi-Surface Glitter Paint in Obsidian over the the design to add a little sparkle. Who doesn’t love that? I then added a few bats and a spider to two of the pages with the Martha Stewart Crafts Adhesive Stencils.

Assemble components and adhere mini chalkboards. I layered scrapbook paper and the paintable plastic with designs and inserted into the 8×10 frames. Then I used both hot glue (for speed) and E6000 (to be sure that the chalkboards stuck to the glass) to adhere the mini chalkboards to the larger frames. And you’re done!

This may seem like a lot of steps, but really the Martha Stewart Crafts line was quite easy to use! I was so happy with the results; I can’t wait to use the adhesive silkscreens for other projects. And you know that you will see these frames again! It will be fun to see how I can interchange them and what else they can be used for!

And here you have them. All set on the lower portion of our faux mantel. Now just to work on the top! It was such a fun project with amazing supplies, I hope you enjoyed the step-by-step and that you’ll go snag some of your very own Martha Stewart Crafts as well! You can check out this awesome line of Plaid Crafts on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest!

I wrote this post as part of a paid campaign with Plaid Martha Stewart and Blueprint Social. However, the opinions in this post are my own.

Check out other projects from this campaign!
