{Sponsor Spotlight} Fashionista Bazaar

One of our featured sponsors for the month of August is Luciana at Fashionista Bazaar! If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll quickly recognize these pieces and know that I am a HUGE fan of this shop (and the owner!). Before we get into the guest post, here’s a little sampling of my Fashionista Bazaar collection…

:::::::::::::::::

I started Fashionista Bazaar after an inspirational trip back home to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil a year ago.  Brazil has been for years a fascination to the rest of the world for its music, natural beauty, and style.  In recent years the eighth largest country in the world’s fashion scene is making waves in the industry. Paired with a Brazilian based designer, I sought to create a jewelry company that would represent the essence of Brazil through a mixture of its natural resources.

Every piece from Fashionista Bazaar’s collection is a mixture of natural stones and South American leather, which is famous throughout the world.  Materials include natural stones, crystals, resin, and murano stone that will not tarnish over time. Murano stone is made from an ancient method of glass blowing passed down for centuries by Italian artisans. The artist uses rich earthy colors that represent the natural beauty and flair of Brazil.  Our pieces are both vibrant and exotic, everything a woman needs to make a bold statement.

So stop by Fashionista Bazaar today and take a look around. Follow me on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter to keep up on frequent discounts and deals!

{Sponsor Spotlight} Erin from My Thirty Spot

One of our featured sponsors for the month of August is Erin from My Thirty Spot! As a gal in my 30s, I REALLY appreciate so many of her fabulous posts! And hey, even if you’re not in your 30s, her blog is packed full of greatness! Be sure to stop by and say hello, and tell her A Night Owl sent you!

:::::::::::::::::

My name is Erin Kennedy and I’m the writer and woman behind the blog; My Thirty Spot. I had never written a blog before and I have to say that I jumped in with both feet even though I had no clue what I was doing.

So how did this all start? I was laid off from my job the week before I was getting married. That was a huge blow not just financially, but emotionally. It is a rough thing being laid off and it was right before the biggest day of my life. It was a crazy time.

The biggest thing that I had to cut was a lot of my beauty stuff. Like getting my hair highlighted every five weeks, getting mani’s and pedi’s, and all the newest makeup. I decided to turn to the internet to find some beauty tips that were for a 30-something and DIY. I was surprised that I could not find very much info for the 30-something. I found plenty of sites dedicated to the 20-something or college aged gal, and even more sites dedicated to women in their 40s. What about us 30s? We need tips too! It’s a big transition from age 20s to 30s, but there wasn’t much information to help us through it. We still look like 20s, and I wanted to know how to stay that way as long as possible.

So that was it. I thought if I started a blog I could use it to appeal to companies hiring, it would give me something to do during the day and I could also learn a ton!

Here are some FAQ that I thought I would share. I have yet to put this on my blog, so you are the first to read them.

How old are you? I’m 33. I was born in 1979. I’m a Capricorn. So far, my 30s are my favorite age of all. Obviously!

How old were you when you started this blog? 31

When did you start this blog? I started this blog at the end of 2010.

Where are you from? I was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah and in 2007, I moved to Phoenix to experience another city.

Are you married? Yep, to an amazing man I met four months after I moved to Phoenix.

Do you have children? Not yet. But soon, and I’m sure you will get sick of reading my posts about it.

What is your #1 beauty tip for a woman in her 30s? Sunscreen! Always and every day! Wear it on your face, neck, the back of your hands and even your décolleté. I would recommend nothing less than 40 SPF. Don’t forget to re-apply if you are outdoors after two hours.

What advice would you give someone just starting out in the blogging world? Find your voice and write that way. Write like your chatting with your girlfriends and keep writing. Life can get in the way, so if you’re serious you need to make sure you just keep writing on a regular basis.

What is the best way to get traffic? Network, network, network. I mean everywhere; social media (Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram) linky parties, commenting on other blogs and even attending events that are going on in your city. You might be amazed who you might meet and that can turn into something that will work for both of you. I would also recommend joining a forum and guest posting on bigger blogs.

What is your favorite post? I don’t have a favorite post, but I do have a series that is my favorite. It is called the Love for 30 Project. It allows women to guest post and write about their 30s. Women from all over the world have contributed and it is so refreshing and inspiring to read about other women’s stories about what they have learned, are learning and experiences in their 30s. I am always looking for contributors, so if you would like to join the project, email me!

{Sponsor Spotlight} Mar from Raising Bean

One of our featured sponsors for the month of August is Mar from Raising Bean! She is currently one of the hosts of the #PhotoadayRecap Link Party we have going on now, so if  you have #Photoaday Recap posts and you haven’t linked up yet, be sure you do!

:::::::::::::::::

Hi all! I’m Mar, I blog over at Raising Bean.

Over there you’ll get to know me, and my family, by reading about the fun times we share, the adventures we go on, and all the adorable pictures. My 14 month old baby girl, my little bean, is always exploring, giggling, and getting into some sort of trouble! She also enjoys rearranging my kitchen on a daily basis.

Occasionally, things between raising human babies, and pets, are similar. Some days, there are more coincidences than others.

Before having my daughter, I acquired my furry kids. I have a 12 year old husky mix, a 5 year old dachshund, 3 year old pit bull, and a 4 year old cat. I have raised them all, saved them all, and learned from them all. I also rescued my pit bulls mom 2 weeks before she gave birth to a little of 8 puppies, we made sure all 9 of them were spayed and neutered before leaving for their new homes. So I’ve had my share of furry babies. My daughter is my only human baby, and the first newborn I ever truly dealt with. I literally ran into motherhood blind. Thank goodness for the classes my husband and I attended at the hospital!

The other day, I was getting treats out for my three canine kids, so that Bean and I could eat out lunch without three sets of begging eyes upon us. Our dogs always sit before they can eat, and get their treats. So I naturally stared at my pit bull and said “sit down”, Bean happened to be standing right next to him when I said it. They both sat in unison, and stared at me with the same Okay, I did it. Now what do I get? expression.

My precious little bean loves to explore her surroundings, new and old. Recently she’s gotten into the habit of opening the drawers we keep our bluray DVDs in, and bringing them across the room to me, or giving them to the dogs by leaving them in one of their beds. So after the Sit incident, and lunch, she started unloading DVDs onto my lap. Since she had left the drawer/DVD home open I decided to see if I could toss them back into it. Thus being a lazy-toddler-mess-cleaner-upper. So with a flick of my wrist, I threw them like a frisbee towards in the direction of the open drawer. **Note: I have never been good at getting frisbees to go where I want them to. The DVDs landed scattered in the general area of the console table, at least it’ll make clean up faster I thought. Want to guess what happened next? A nice game of fetch with my “helpful” baby girl. She started bringing all the DVDs right back to my lap, and I kept tossing them back towards the drawers. Lather, rinse, repeat! Wore her out, and her daily nap soon followed. Winning!

While I was cooking dinner that evening, I handed Bean a wooden spoon to entertain herself with, and she toddled over to the pet’s water dish to splash in it with the spoon. Playing in the water bowl is another daily occurrence, you can read another story about it here. After a few minutes of hearing giggling and splashing while dinner is sizzling and cooking, the kitchen becomes silent. Every mom knows that when your baby’s quiet that’s a bad sign, unless they’re napping. So I turn around and the crazy girl is about to put her face in the water bowl to take a drink. I couldn’t help but laugh as I exclaimed her name. It was quite a sight to see! I grabbed her her still mostly full sippy cup from earlier in the day and she seemed satisfied. I guess she was too lazy to find her sippy cup on her own, and knew she couldn’t nurse at that moment because I was fixin’ our meal.

So you see, sometimes pets and babies really aren’t all that different. You try to raise them both to be happy, obedient, loyal, smart, well behaved, and loving. I reinforce positive behavior with praise and snuggles for all my pets, and my daughter. Thank goodness my girl is walking though, if she was still crawling while doing all these similar things to the dogs… I may have had to start worrying!

If you’d like to see more adorable pictures, and read fun stories (and sometimes not-so-fun stories) then come on over to my blog, Raising Bean, for a visit! I’d love for you to say “Hey y’all!” whenever you stop by too :)

{Sponsor Spotlight} Megan from Absolute Mommy!

One our featured sponsors this month is Megan from Absolute Mommy! You’ll get a kick out of her honestly and writing style. Make sure you go by and say hello!

********

Hello friends and readers of A Night Owl Blog! I’m Megan from AbsoluteMommy. I’m super excited to meet all of Kimberly’s friends. I can’t remember how I found Kimberly and her blog, but I just adore her.  Girlfriend knows how to have fun. She has a super fierce love for Instagram, much like me, so it was an instant attraction! Plus her “Pinning” link ups are amazing and I always find something new. And seriously what’s not to love about a link up about links on Pinterest? Exactly!

I’m sure you are wondering who AbsoluteMommy really is. Let’s cut to the chase. I started blogging a little over a year ago.  I write about whatever my hearts desire, but mostly about fumbling and stumbling through motherhood.  My motto is “I wasn’t built for motherhood.  It built me.  It’s a work in progress”. You will find that I blog about my marriage to this guy:

We’ve been married 7 years! I’m lucky he puts up with my attitude!

I also blog about these cuties, and take an insane amount of photos of them to post to Instagram. So if you’d like to follow me on Instagram, this is your warning!

This is Miss Mackenzie
This is Caitlin Elizabeth.

I have been known to post crafty stuff, but my tutorials always look like the photography from an 80s “b” movie. Plus if I’m crafty it has to be easier than making a peanut butter sandwich. I sometimes post a recipe or two and those are equally as easy, because if it’s more than 5 steps, mama don’t bother. To give you an idea of what happens at Absolute Mommy, here is a excerpt of one of my favorite posts:

********
Reason I should get Mother of the Year – choose your favorite:

Oreos for breakfast.
Typical on mornings where Twitter and Pinterest are far more interesting than Ming Ming and the damn phone that won’t stop ringing. For the love of God answer that phone!!! Oreos for breakfast when I’m trying to cook an actual breakfast and my two year old is literally trying to crawl up my body like a rat. Oreos for breakfast when I just need to wash my hair so the other moms at the gymnastics class think I’m well groomed and somewhat put together. Oreos for breakfast when I’m out of peanut butter cups.

I love McDonalds!
Fast Food was created for women who know how to cook but find other things to do. I love fast food and I can’t even eat it. What better way to say I love you than to present a meal that comes with a cool (albeit cheap) toy. McDonalds have saved the day on many occasion. I will not pass judgement on Ronald McDonald and his fortress of fat.

TV Rules!!
TV will not kill my child. It won’t destroy her brain or make it rot. My TV is on all day and I don’t feel bad about it. Both my children have had the benefit of learning Mandarin Chinese from our TV, so take that fancy preschool.
We are learning shapes, numbers, and the alphabet.
You can bet your donuts that your parents would have had the TV on 24hours a day if there was NickJr 30 years ago. My kids have also watched Glee, Twilight, Family Guy, and Keeping up with the Kardashians. Kourtney Kardashian taught Caitlin where babies come from, and I will happily thank her.

Thanks so much to Kimberly, for hosting me today. I hope have liked what you read. Stop by sometime and say hello. I’m giving my honest opinion about my life and how I’ve gone from Megan to Mommy, in what seems like the blink of an eye!! I’m taking low-maintenance mom to a whole new level!!!

{Sponsor Spotlight} Aimee from Aimee & Co.

One our featured sponsors this month is THEEE Aimee from Aimee & Co! Aimee is sweet and talented! If you’re a blogger, you definitely want to get to know this gal! She’s a wealth of website and design information!

hello there! i am a website & graphic designer and i work for myself with an amazing team! i started my business when my daughter abby was born and here, almost 3 years later we have a growing list of clients that hire us for blogger to WordPress moves, brand identity & logo design, eCommerce website designs and much, much more!! my quick list of “get to know me” –>> i am a Christian / married to a Marine for almost 10 years / we have two sweeties, Jack is almost 5 & Abby is almost 3 / we live in Southern California and enjoy the ocean breezes living just 3 miles from the shore / my family & part of my heart is back in Western NY where i was raised, i miss them dearly / i am the DIY author & found of: Fancy Little Things /this is my business

today i am going to share with you some things i have learned in the 3 years working with bloggers that i truly believe you need to be successful! are you ready — let’s get started…

#1: get branded // make a logo, buy a logo, put together some fonts & colors and call it a logo – and then use it EVERYWHERE. branding allows people to know who you are without you having to say a thing. be intentional. {oh yes, buy business cards too. lots of them.}
#2: get social // social media is free – create a Facebook page, get a twitter handle, start pinning on Pinterest, join Instagram {an Android app is available for us non-iPhone users} and start building, connecting, sharing and growing
#3: register a gravatar // no longer be a faceless poster or commenter. not sure what i mean? then you will want to check this out!
#4: be fearless // toot your own horn. promote your products, your posts, your projects. if you don’t tell someone, no one will know!
#5: start on WordPress.org self-hosted // it costs more money to move an established blogger or business owner than just to start on WordPress. Hire a professional. Ask for references & then follow up on those references. You’re going to pay a little bit more and maybe even wait for their design schedule to be open but it’s worth the wait! I promise. {If you need some references from those that have successfully made the switch and watched their site flourish, let me know!!}

two things i want you to know:

  if you offer ad space on your blog or interested in buying some for the month of July, stop by on Friday, June 15th for our 2nd Buy/Swap/Sell Ad Space Link Party.

if you are ready to start an online shop or interested in upgrading your current shop, then stop by in a few weeks as we launch or eCommerce Series for June.

{Sponsor Spotlight} Melissa from A Life of a Not So Ordinary Wife

And our last (but CERTAINLY not least) featured sponsors this month is Melissa from The Life of a Not So Ordinary Wife! I asked her to share a guest post with you all. She is a jack (or jill??) of all trades, and is sharing her new love with you all!

Hello! I am Melissa and I blog over at The Life of a Not So Ordinary Wife. I am so happy to be guest posting for Kimberly today!! I’ve been a fan of her blog for a little while now and she has been soooo nice to me! oh and ps you should totally sponsor her blog (so worth it).

Ok, I know she is totally into instagram, and I LOVE it, I use it almost everyday, BUT recently my husband bought me a DSLR and WOW I am so in love with it! I have never taken any photography classes or have never even played with a “real” camera before so this was all new to me. I’m one of those people who is so into something one day and then turns around and is completely obsessed with something else the next day. I guess that’s why my blog works out so well, I can focus all my hobbies into my blog posts haha. Ok, totally got distracted. What was I saying? Oh ya, purchasing my new camera.
So I went with a Canon t3i Rebel and so far it has done wonders to my pictures. It came with a 18-55mm lens and a 55-250mm lens, which I totally fell in love with the big zoom len, so much fun.
I bring the camera EVERYWHERE. Ha, Everyone laughs at me when I pull it out in random locations lol. I have been practicing on everyone and everything, good thing I have a lot of family including two cousins who needed senior pictures!
Here are SOME of the thousands of photos I’ve taken so far.

So far the Canon was so worth and I totally recommend it if you are a beginner and looking for a nice DSLR!
Thanks for letting me spill a little about my recent “photography” skills and feel free to stop by my blog and say Hi sometime!

{Sponsor Spotlight} Emily from Designs by Emily F

One of our featured sponsors this month is Emily from Designs by Emily F. I asked her to share a guest post with you all. Check out this cute and talented gal!

Hey Night Owl readers! My name is Emily and I’m a graphic design student with only one year left. I started my blog as a way to express myself and to be able to start doing more Graphic Design for others. I’m the type of person that has always been very quiet in big groups.

One thing I’ve always loved doing is making things and coming up with DIYs. Before I decided to start blogging, I had a YouTube channel and I thought I would share some of the DIYs I did that I haven’t posted on my blog before.

Here is a magazine or makeup palette holder that I made using cardboard, duct tape, hot glue & fabric. You can also so the same thing using a cereal box.

I also did another one using a plastic cup and a bangle to make a pencil or makeup brush holder.

I decided to switch to blogging at the beginning of the year because I felt too weird talking to a camera. My blog is also full of stories from my life, beauty tutorials, and anything else that comes to mind.

Now that you know a little about me and what I like to do I would love to get to know all of you! Head on over to Designs By Emily F and introduce yourself!

{Sponsor Spotlight} Laura from Our Reflection

One of our featured sponsors this month is Laura from Our Reflection. I asked her to share a guest post with you all. I know you will enjoy hearing from her!
Is a blog name really “that” important?
Should you completely stress yourself out over it?
I guess I answered yes to both these questions because that’s what I did. For weeks. Seriously. If I was going to jump into the world of blogging, I wanted our name to reflect who we really were. I came up with a list of at least a dozen possibilities but they had already been taken. I was literally beating myself up with why couldn’t I come up with a simple blog name. Then it hit me. “I” can’t do anything on my own. I needed to take the advise I’m constantly giving to others, step back and pray about it. And that’s exactly what I did.

God knew my thoughts. I didn’t need to do a hour long prayer with “thees” and “thous” for God to understand what I was trying to say. I simply asked God to use me as a disciple for His will. To be someone who would help spread His word though my blog. Not being someone throwing a Bible at you, but by leading by example. My husband and I are in a couple Bibles study and one night when he was speaking about how husbands should treat their wives, he turned at looked directly into my eyes and said, “When I look at my wife, I see Jesus face transparent before hers. There is nothing I wouldn’t say or do to her, that I wouldn’t say directly to Him.”

I was breathless. So beautifully said, I was bit in awe My husband is an amazing, admirable man. I rehearsed in my mind, over and over those words he spoke to me that night. My husband is the reflection of a mighty and faithful servant. That was it! That’s how I wanted our family to be known, as faithful servants. And to be this, we needed to live in His reflection. That’s how our little blog came to life. I made my news years goal and on January 1, 2012, Our Reflection came to life. I have my weekly link up parties but I’m now focusing more on posting what’s in my heart. What we can do to make a difference in the lives of others. What we can do to live in His reflection. I hope you found this encouraging. I would love to hear your stories of how God’s working in your life. Come drop by and say hi.

We like to have fun, you’d be amazed at the things we do. For instance my dad just recently used a dunk tank as a baptismal. haha -I have been married for 7 years and we’ve dealt with unexplained infertility our whole marriage. You can read more about it in the “About Me” Section of my blog.

Luciana :: Fashionista Bazaar

And a little bit about Luciana…
Hi, I’m Luciana! I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I moved to the States when I was just 14. I’ve lived in Washington, D.C , VIrginia, and New York, where I went to school (FIT). I moved back to Brazil in 2001, and became a preschool teacher at a bilingual school (Portuguese/English). Met my husband, Rob, 6 years ago and we got married in 2008 and moved to LA in 2009. It was a huge adjustment, it’s sooo different from the east coast. That’s why I decided to start my business so I could meet new people and make new friends. I started Fashionista Bazaar about a year ago. I went to Brazil on vacation and threw a couple of consignment parties and from doing that I was able to make some cash and start my business. Now Fashionista Bazaar sells fashion jewelry and accessories made in Brazil (I work with an amazing designer!) Our pieces are unique and made with so much love!

And a little about Kendall…
The most important thing to me is my little family. I love to save money – I am the one you see in the store with the coupon binder. I am not one of those moms that looks all together- most of the time I’m running around in sweat pants…. {hey we’re being honest}. I have Endometerosis, and struggle with it daily. I am on a mission to shed some pounds!

Emily :: The Pink Elephant
And a little about Emily…

I’m a newlywed, twenty something, realtor by day, dragon slayer by night (ha only kidding!), more like blogger by night. I am obsessed with interior design, studied graphic design in college, so I have a love for interior design too. I’m a reality television junkie, and drink entirely too much coffee. I get to explore other people’s homes on a daily basis, so my blog is where I can share my ideas of things I have seen and where I can create design items for other people to enjoy. Even though I am new to the blog world, I have met some amazing girls, who have encouraged me from the start.
ps – Emily is the fantastic designer behind A Night Owl. if you’re in the market for a redesign, I of course would highly recommend!

Sarah :: Fontenot Four

Blog :: Shop :: Facebook :: Twitter :: BlogLovin’ :: HelloCotton :: Pinterest

And a little about Sarah…
I started The Fontenot Four as an outlet for me to write about the blessings in my life. During this past year of blogging, I came to realize that I could use my blog to help people. Our family has been through so much. I thought maybe something I write one day could help someone who is going through a similar situation. I’m still just a little blog, but I’ve met some really amazing women – many of whom, like me, are not afraid to share their faith. I love to blog about the blessings in my life, my faith, the occasional book review, recipes from time to time, musings about my family, and so on.

Karly :: Three in Three

And a little about Karly…

I’m crazy, like totally crazy. So you never really know what to expect. I don’t shy away from the tough topics and I try to keep things as real as possible. Posting about the embarrassing things I do really makes me giggle. I run two shops: one for jewelry and one for vector art portraits. I adore the work!
