{Birthday Bash} A Toy Story Party

Hi friends and welcome to the Birthday Bash! My birthday happens to be this week, so I thought it would be fun this week to showcase some of my favorite birthday parties that A Night Owl Contributors and myself have thrown, and wrap up the week with a Birthday Bash Favorite Things Giveaway! So party along with us this week and be sure to come back Friday to enter this fun giveaway!

If you know my son, you know he is a HUGE fan of anything Toy Story, so it was the obvious choice for his 2nd birthday party theme! I thought about going the more abstract route of spaceships and cowboy hats but he lights up when he sees the actual characters so I just went for it!

I had so much creating this party for my lil Toy Story fan! For full party details visit my original post at Life According to the Streets.

{Project Home} Bandanna Bunting Window Treatment

It’s been a little while since I posted my toddler boy’s Toy Story Room reveal, so if you haven’t seen it yet, go take a look HERE!

As I mentioned in that post, I made a few things for his room that I would share a tutorial for. Here is the tutorial for the Etch-A-Sketch Chalkboard.

And finally, here is a tutorial for the DIY bandanna bunting window treatment!
1. I made a pennant template from a cardboard box, folded each bandanna in half,
and traced around the template
2. I cut each pennant out, leaving the folded side in tact
3. This resulted in pennants of similar size, double-sided
4. I sewed along each of the edges, leaving the edges unfinished
5. I glued the top of each pennant to a yard of rope
6. And voila! Bandanna bunting complete!
And here’s how it looks hung in his room (I just used two brass hooks that screw into the drywall to tie the ends of the rope around):
And there you have it! My son has enjoyed his room. I still love when both of them point out the different characters in the room. All the work was certainly worth it!

{Project Home} An Etch-A-Sketch Chalkboard

Thanks to all who have visited and commented on AJ’s (my two-year-old) new Toy Story themed bedroom. If you haven’t seen it yet, go take a look HERE!

As I mentioned in that post, I made a few things for his room that I would share a tutorial for. Up first: the Etch-A-Sketch chalkboard!

When I was doing research for the room (you know, hours on Pinterest), my friend Rebecca from The Crafted Sparrow, came across this idea and shared with me:

It is from a Toy Story themed birthday party, but instantly I knew that I wanted to figure out a fun way to use the Etch-A-Sketch in his room. Once I decided that a chalkboard was the way to go, I started patrolling Goodwill for a cheap frame or mirror. And I found one!

Once I found the mirror I wanted to use, I taped off the outside wood frame and spray painted two coats of chalkboard paint directly onto the mirror (yes, it works!). I let that dry, then taped off the inside of the frame to spray paint the outside red…many, many coats of red. In hindsight, I would probably use a primer since it took so many coats to get an even color, but it all worked out.

Once the red paint was dry, I printed out the Etch-A-Sketch logo, layered a piece of newspaper underneath it, and traced it onto the frame where I wanted the logo to go. By doing this, the newspaper leaves a faint outline on the frame (a trick I learned from Pinterest!). I then filled in the traced logo with a gold paint marker.

For the knobs, I purchased a set of four round wooden circles from Hobby Lobby, glued two of those together for each knob and painted them white with acrylic paint. Once those were dry and ready to go, I simply glued them in place on the frame…to bring me to the final product:

I love how it turned out! It’s one of my most favorite, and most unique, elements of the room. I hope you enjoy!
