Baking For Kate #AlterYourWorld

Didn't they realize that the only way to change things was to act? #AlterYourWorld

Hi friends! Sorry, no Thrifty Thursday post today. Today I’d love to take a moment to talk about something recently that made me pause. Made me step back from my “busy” life and made me want to act. You see, earlier this month Alt Design Summit put out a challenge, a challenge to Alter Your World…

The next time you or your friend does something to better the world, we want to know about it. Did you volunteer at the women’s shelter? Did your friend raise funds for a meaningful cause? Or maybe your friend brightened someone’s day with an act of particular kindness.

It’s been in the back of my mind, then yesterday this act, this act of kindness, hit me like a ton of bricks. Sweet Carrie from Frugal Foodie Mama asked us this week to promote her online bake sale coming up this weekend. And I thought – sure! I help support my blog buds so I tweeted and thought I’d be on my way. But then I read about Kate.

Kate and Kids

Then I clicked around and read some more. And I was in tears. You see, earlier this year Carrie’s friend Kate was diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer. They gave her a 30% chance of surviving this for 5 years. Presently, she is trying to cross off items on her Mommy Bucket List and create as many memories for her children as she can. She has 3 kids under 5. Enter tears. As a mother of two little guys I cannot imagine what Kate is going through. And while we can hope and pray for a cure, Carrie was moved to ACT. She came up with #BakingForKate – an online bake sale where 100% of the proceeds will go to Kate and her family to fund precious memories.

#BakingForKate

Want to know where I will be this weekend? Bidding on some sweet goodies for Kate. Want to join me? I thought so. First, “Like” the Baking For Kate Facebook Page – that’s where it’s all going down. Next, head over to Frugal Foodie Mama to get all the details. Let’s make some of Kate’s dreams come true.

Thank you Carrie – for taking the time to alter your world – to alter Kate’s – to alter mine. In a world where busyness consumes, where we fend and focus on ourselves, it’s so refreshing to be reminded just how we can be there for each other. And thank YOU, you who read through this slightly different post today. I hope I see you this weekend. I hope you feel compelled to alter your world.

Vine :: A New Social Media Video Sharing App

Please note: I am aware of the concerns around inappropriate content that have been reported on Vine. To date, I have seen no inappropriate material. With any form social media (especially when it is new) you must exercise caution! For now, until they work out the kinks, I only follow people I “know” (from blogging, etc) and I don’t go to the “explore” tab. My children do not have access to my phone. And in the end I completely understand if you have reservations! Really, it’s up to each person but so far I’ve had a lot of fun and am using it carefully!

Join me on Vine - a 6-second video sharing app!

Hi friends! If you know me, you know I’m a social media junkie. And there’s a new social media app in town by the founders of Twitter: Vine! I kind of think of it like Instagram, for 6-second videos. And I know some of you are cringing at the thought of a new social media outlet (and I get it!) but I’m always game to try something new. So if you’re trying it out – come find and follow me – and I’ll be sure to follow you back! I think it could be a fun (and maybe weird) way to get glimpses into our lives!

{14 Days of Valentines} Cherry & Vanilla Shake

Yummy Cherry & Vanilla Shake

Hello everyone! I’m Stacey and I blog over at Glued To My Crafts. I’m pretty excited to be guest posting today at A Night Owl. Let me start off with introducing myself. I’m a mother to a nearly two year old boy (yikes his birthday is next weekend) who keeps me on my toes and inspires a lot of my posts. I’m also a wife to a wonderful man serving in the Air Force for 12 years now. I’m a girly-girl who loves cooking, crafting and inspiring. Ok, the last one is more of a “I hope I inspire you.” My blog is mainly about life experiences, recipes and craft creations. Everything I post can we be recreated with simple, everyday items you probably already have in your house. Even though I’m a shopaholic, I’m all about saving money and using what you have on hand. I don’t spend a lot to be crafty, and neither should you.

So let’s get down to business, shall we? Today I’m sharing with you my Cherry & Vanilla Shake recipe. I don’t know about you, but I love cherries. The price for them scares me at time, but it’s my spurge food. I remember picking cherries in my grandma’s garden growing up. I think that’s why I’m such a sucker for cherries. They bring back some good memories.

And did you know February is National Cherry Month? So not only is this recipe great for Valentine’s day, you can also whip it up in honor of National Cherry Month. PLUS, the items? Simple, ingredients! This isn’t going to break the bank or your waist line. I hope you get inspired to try it and love it as much as we do.

Campus Book Rentals + Operation Smile

If you know me, you know that one of the things I’m passionate about in life is education. And right now, it’s more expensive than ever to try to get a quality education. That’s where companies like Campus Book Rentals come into play.

Are you currently a student spending hundreds of dollars each semester for books that you have to then turnaround and HOPE to sell? I can’t tell you how many books that I’ve had to buy for over $150 that I ended up selling at garage sales for just $1. That’s where Campus Book Rentals comes in handy! You can just RENT the textbooks you need!

The process is EASY:

  • Search for your textbook rentals.
  • Rent your textbooks.
  • Receive your textbooks – FREE shipping offered!
  • Return your textbooks – We Provide the Return Envelope and Shipping is FREE!!!

The PERKS:

  • Save 40-90% off of bookstore prices
  • Free shipping both ways
  • You can highlight in the textbooks
  • Flexible renting periods
  • We donate to Operation Smile with each textbook rented
So check out Campus Book Rentals. Take a look at some textbooks such as Leadership : Research Findings, Practice, and Skills by DuBrin, Andrew J. and compare its $150 price tag to what you would pay by renting with Campus Book Rentals.

Still have questions? Check out this quick,
2-minute video or visit their site FAQs:
Good luck with your studies!
Disclosure: This is a “review” The company who sponsored it compensated me via a cash payment, gift, or something else of value to write it. Link up any projects that make the outdoors fun.
These could be games, summer fashions, foods, whatever goes!

This week I am co-hosting the Festival Fever party with host Rosie @ Craftbotic (BLOG/TWITTER) and co-host Jessica @ Vintage Mauve (BLOG/TWITTER).

(If you want to co-host let me know: 12craftsofcrimbo[@]gmail[dot]com)
2. Display the button somewhere on your blog!

So, let’s get the Festival Fever season started.  I am really excited to see what you will be making!

The Ultimate Blog Party

I’m joining in the the Ultimate Blog Party fun with 5 Mintues for Mom, are you?

WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE ULTIMATE BLOG PARTY?

In 2007, Janice had this crazy idea to start something she called a “blog party”where Mom Bloggers would link up and “party” together in a blog carnival style, visiting each other’s sites and getting to know one another. Almost 1000 bloggers joined in and the annual Ultimate Blog Party was born.

In 2008, the UBP had over 1500 bloggers participating and in 2009, over 2000 bloggers participated, and in 2010 the number passed 2300 bloggers partying with us. In 2011, we had 3,000 partying with us.It just keeps growing.

The Ultimate Blog Party has not only grown in participating blogs (hitting right at 3,000 blogs in 2011), but it has also “grown” in the variety of ways online “partygoers” are connected in real life events — from live personal concerts featuring recording artist Chris Mann to webcast video chats and Twitter parties. Now you know!  Link up and get to know some great new blogs and bloggers!
